Kumihimo is a lovely (and simple) Japanese technique for making braids. Originally these braids were used to hold the pieces of a Samurai’s armor together. As you might expect this practical purpose also became another source of decoration.
Today kumihimo is most often found in jewelry, often enhanced with beads of many kinds. The basic kumihimo braids are easy to make and, as we see in this post from One Off Needlework’s blog, they make fantastic cording for your needlepoint!
I’m going to have to try this!
