We’re finishing up coverage of the Summer Needlework Market today. Canvases from Melissa Shirley, Rebecca Wood and others are described.
Sew Much Fun has added golfer girls and boys to their series of shelf sitters. Even without equipment, you know the sports by the sayings on their clothes. In addition to the first Christmas snowmen I talked about in an earlier column, Rebecca Wood has a first Christmas cake and a pair of reindeer. Other new designs from Rebecca include new rounds with naughty reindeer, including a Frisbee-playing guy and a Cubs player. She has also turned four of her more popular birds from the ornament series fromthe winter into pillows by adding charming borders.
Sandra Gilmore has more lovely canvases in her romantic style. These include new roomscapes including a kitchen and a lovely red desk. Other fun ones are a music room and a patriotic picnic in the front yard. These detailed canvases can be challenging to stitch but the results are worth it. Tess & Thorn has a new canvas with a wonderful lion on it in their Pop Art style.
Ruth Schmuff has added a new artist to her line, Rebecca Walk. The canvases feature lovely highly patterned backgrounds and often feature cats. These will be lovely to stitch. S.E Hagarman, an artist licensed to & more has two great little black dress canvases. They are on dress forms an include jewelry and shoes. It’s almost like stitching a store display!
One of Painted Pony’s artists, Mary Charles, has wonderful canvases reflecting her life in rural Pennsylvania. Two of the new canvases features barns. One is a white barn in spring with a barn quilt on it. The other is a red barn on a star-spangled night with a large flag flying over it. From Mary Engelbreit there is a wonderful new pool design (something I could use right now).
Maggie Co has added a ton of new Santa canvases by Stephanie Stouffer. They have also added two great new canvases from Marie Sansome, one of sheep and the other featuring a pair of cardinals. Two Sisters has added Bermuda Bag ornaments in two patterns, polka dots and houndstooth, that can be customized with names or schools. The dots are available in several colors. Lycette has a new saying for dog moms.
Artist’s Collection has added canvases from Jennifer Reifenberg to their line. Stitchers who have delighted in her vegetable series of workshops will be excited to see these. The line includes three canvases with pairs of fruit, some wonderful round geometric designs, and a great evergreen wreath with a red bow. The line is called The Art of Sunshine. The Point of It All has added fold-over cellphone cases to their line. The great thing about these canvases, available in several designs, is that they are in one piece for easy finishing.
As always Melissa Shirley has tons of great new designs. From Mary Lake Thompson there are some great vegetable canvases including a bike that’s just come from a trip to the garden. Plus there is a wonderful bee skep that’s a 10″ square with a matching bike. Another great design from her features eight elaborate fishing flies. There is a new series from Debbie Mumm that features animals in a simple style in red and blue. These would be wonderful as a group for a cottage. There’s plenty of new Vicki Sawyer canvases including a group of yellow birds, a new owl canvas, several single birds, and some groups of different birds on a striking brown background.
Melissa has a wonderful Halloween tree that hangs a black pole tree with lots of spooky ornaments. There are even miniature versions of several of her Halloween ornaments on the canvas. Her popular cat outlines have a new series for Halloween with patches in a subdued color palette. For autumn there is a series of different leaves, each with geometric patterns that feature gold plus a fall color. These could be so lovely decorating a wreath for fall.
Do you want to see pictures of these canvases? Because I cover so many canvases in my articles, it’s impractical to picture them all. While not every designer updates their website quickly, going to the designer’s site is your best bet for seeing pictures.
Next week will be review week. I have a big pile of clever gadgets and books to review, Watch for new reviews Monday through Thursday.
