The next patch in Yosigire has an unusual Gobelin variation called Linenfold. It has both Straight and Diagonal Gobelin in alternating stripes of different widths.
The name is unusual as well. “Linenfold” was a type of carved wood paneling popular in Tudor times. The carving looked like folds of crisp linen fabric. In translating this to stitches, below, the wider Straight Gobelin stripes represent the flat fabric. The narrow Diagonal Gobelin stripes are the folds.
You can vary Linenfold to have the Straight Gobelin Stitches wider (up to 6 threads wide).
It is an outstanding background (make it in two colors from striped wallpaper. It also can be an unexpected stitch for textural areas.
