This vintage Tish canvas from Sundance uses a pretty variation of Four-way Continental for the sky. It’s a great choice for a minimal background. Because this sky was stitched with only a single strand of floss, it creates a nice contrast with the full-coverage Tent-stitched pueblo. The diagram for Open Giant Four-way Continental is below.
You can do this stitch either as a darning pattern (over 2, under 1 on each diagonal) or as a regular stitch.
Wondering where the package is? I seriously messed up the stitch and have now run out of thread. While I’m waiting for the thread to come, I’ll give you other background ideas.
