Years ago I took a class with David McCaskill that covered his charming Background Sampler, pictured above. It occurred to me that it would be fun and challenging to make a background sampler using a crazy quilt block.
I’m starting this new project to showcase background stitches using a crazy quilt painted canvas from SHEAR Creations (no longer available). But you don’t need a painted canvas, you can use a crazy quilt block pattern, you can find many choices by doing a Google image search for crazy quilt blocks. Mine is 8″ square and has ten patches. What will make it challenging is all the angles, making for lots of compensation.
Each week I’ll be doing a new patch and blogging about it on Sundays. The canvas was originally pink, yellow, lime, and raspberry. I have decided to change the raspberry to orange so that the canvas will be yellow (lemon), lime (green), pink (grapefruit), and tangerine (orange).
So that the raspberry won’t show through I covered it lightly and unevenly with white paint. You may see this in some of the pictures.
See the first block next Sunday!
