I don’t know about you but I get very frustrated trying to tease threads, especially stranded threads, out of the twists and skeins they come in. I use Flossaway bags these days, but the process of opening the twists and cutting them is a real pain.
Mary Corbet of Needle n’Thread has this problem too. She doesn’t cut her threads so the bags don’t make for a good solution. Hers was to create spools for the thread. Here’s where the genius bit comes in, she used heavy-duty paper drinking straws as the center of the spools. They were cheap and she could write on them, so she would not lose important info. Once done, she can throw them out.
In a fantastic blog post, she shows us exactly how she did this using a drill to make it easy! Her finished spools are neat, labeled, and even have slits in them for the thread ends.
