
While you are waiting for the coals to get ready or for the fireworks show to start, take a look at some great new needlepoint products.
Hedgehog Needlepoint has come out with a travel tag in honor of the Queen’s Jubilee. It doesn’t have the airport designation but it has plenty of items honoring the Queen and the Jubilee. Kate Dickerson also has a Jubilee canvas. It’s a portrait of the Queen with one of her corgis.
Mindy has several new canvases coming out. Some of these include an Asian-style canvas in cream, black, and gold with many geometric patterns and a really cool modern design that has almost a 3-D effect. Raymond Crawford has a new series based on Alice in Wonderland. One canvas is the Mad Hatter. He has stripes, checks, and dots in his brightly colored clothes. Raymond also has a flamingo ready for Christmas with a wreath around its neck.
JP Needlepoint has an adorable glamping canvas. It has a retro trailer and lots of animals all around. a stream with fish goes across the bottom of the canvas. Floating on the stream is a boat holding a Christmas tree and a bunch of packages. A deer’s head pokes out from behind the tree. Another great canvas is an undersea scene with many critters, corals, shells, and seaweed.
Needlepaint has a new series of computer-printed canvases featuring National Parks. While many of the most popular parks are represented in the rounds, you’ll also find unusual ones like Arcadia in Maine and Zion in Utah. Canvas & Thread has licensed the great retro National Park posters from the Anderson Design Group. Two of the canvases currently available are for the Great Smoky and Rocky Mountain parks. Painted Pony’s destination posters licensed from Max & Oscar include vacation spots like Martha’s Vineyard.
Carol Curtis has a new canvas showing four friends at the beach. It’s available on 13 or 18 mesh. A new Sandra Gilmore canvas has a pretty bouquet in front of a window that overlooks the beach. A stitch guide by Laura Taylor is also available. From Kate Dickerson’s licensed artist, Shannon Snow, find a duck-carrying wheelbarrow surrounded by spring flowers in s charming folk-art style. Voila has a new glasses case with a chic lady in glasses on one side and several pairs of glasses on the other. Susan Roberts has two new nutcrackers: the Hunter and the Blue King.
Pippin has a new stocking cuff with four dogs, all different breeds, on it. They also have a fun new Nines canvas with nine palm trees. A Halloween canvas has a row of seven Jack o’Lanterns with crows sitting on top. Kelly Clark has a lovely new fall bouquet canvas. The flowers are accented with a pumpkin and are in a Chinese vase. CBK’s artist, Designs by Karen, has four new ornaments, two with penguins and two with sloths.
A new Santa from Strictly Christmas is holding a fancy tree that can use lights. Mia Whitmore, an artist licensed by Colonial Needle, has two new Christmas canvases, one featuring ornaments and one a candle. They both have a mid-century folk art style. A new shelf canvas from Alice Peterson has a beach theme with a lighthouse, whale, sailboat, and more. Tango & Chocolate has several new dog canvases in 4″ squares. These great designs would work for beginning stitchers.
There are some changes in designers and distributors. Whimsy & grace is now distributed by Chris Lewis. This company represents several designers. CBK has added a new artist, Pink Petals Needlepoint. Two designers are no longer represented by CBK. They are no longer carrying canvases by Rosalie Peters and Caron. A new designer for KCN is Pearly Gates. The designer’s initial designs have sprays of laurel leaves with trees, candy canes, or nutcrackers between them. The designs come in several shapes.
Planet Earth has new roll-up window pouches. It comes in two sizes. They have also added a new thread, Glimmer. There are 15 metallic-blend colors. They are packaged on small spool cards like Essentials. In their leather products, they have added snap trays and a larger rectangular jewelry box.
Sullivans has added overdyed colors to their embroidery floss line. Threadworx has added new colors to many of its threads. There are six new floss colors and five new metallic shades available in three sizes. Both silks, Vineyard and Au Ver a Soie have six new colors that are available in both threads. Treenway Silks 65 Roses colors are up to 23. All of these colors are available in Shinju, a twisted silk similar in size to #5 pearl cotton.
The Stitch Squad of Tony Minieri, Meredith Willet, and Suzanne Howren have a book coming out later this month. It’s volume 1 and a second volume is supposed to be out later this year. Several shops are taking orders for the book.
