I’m wrapping up my summary of new needlepoint products with today’s article. Be sure to check out my two previous new products columns (here and here).
Joseph’s Coat is a new family-owned business making charming wooden magnetic needle minders. They have several designs made from alder, including a delightful peacock. They also make corn gauges and thread keeps. Accoutrement Designs has added Judaic Fob Friends with two new designs. They also have two new minders that feature Christmas trees in trendy pink or green. Lee has a new self-finishing backpack that will hold a 5×6″ canvas.
& more has added satin finish sequins to their line. Right now there are 24 colors, but soon there will be 47. The sequins work on 13 or 18 mesh. A new thread distributor, Global Artisans, is distributing several lines of thread from overseas, including House of Embroidery. Just Another Button Company has introduced Sprinkles, collections of 35-40 tiny buttons with 20 different colors available.
Strictly Christmas has new canvases from licensed artists Ronnie Rooney, Linda Grayson, Jo Perry, Shawn Jenkins, and Jennifer Lambien. These designs extend the line beautifully by encompassing food, cooking, Halloween, and seasonal designs. New artist Catherine Holman has her folk art canvases now ab\vailable. You can add “home,” “love,” or “faith” at the top of them.
Sandra Gilmore has a new front porch canvas, this one ready for the Fourth of July. Alice Peterson has added a charming canvas of high-end shopping bags plus new bookshelf canvases for cats and dogs. Liz Goodrich-Dillon has a stunning new canvas of a beautiful Appaloosa horse against a colorful sky at sunset. It’s a magnificent piece.
The Point of It All has a fun new purse canvas “I’m taking the 5th” featuring three whisky bottles. The company also has a new artist, Lucy Arnold. Her fun canvases are enchanting letters featuring items starting with the letter. She also has a lovely jungle eyeglass case with a macaw on one side and an orchid on the other. Machelle Somerville has a new canvas that features 60’s style flowers but in a muted and sophisticated palette.
Painted Pony’s new artists include Lori Siebert whose designs feature retro ladies. Another new artist for them is Suzanne Nicole. Annie Lane has two of her popular designs now available in a smaller size. She also has a new Christmas canvas, Moodolf, with her cow dressed as Rudolph, complete with red nose and elf. Pippin has introduced First Stitch Kits. The six designs are on 12-mesh canvas and come with #3 pearl cotton and a wooden frame.The designs are easy enough for beginners, but would make a great project for anyone. They have also added stocking cuffs to their line with six new designs premiering in September.
Mill Hill always has so many great series in their small perforated paper projects. New ones include three National Park Santas, A Visit from St. Nicholas, Winter Buttons and Beads, a Mitten Trilogy, and a Winter Holiday Collection. Handblessings has added lighthouses to their popular stamps series. They also have a sampler piece designed to teach embellishing.
The Artist’s Collection has new painted canvases based on Jennifer Reifinberg’s wildly popular vegetable series. They also have two new patriotic figures that are 16″ high. Voila has added two new designs, a Cosmo and a Martini, for their needlepoint flasks. & more has lovely new 4″ rounds with initials. There are a variety of backgrounds available. Any letter can be on any background. Kangaroo Paw has new “taxi” rounds for national sororities. The bottom half has a black-and-white check, while the top has stripes in the sorority’s colors.

what I really wish for (which could be a wooden needle keep) is a gauge just like the one for pasta…holes measuring pasta portions before cooking…I wish for holes the size of tapestry needles…beginning with size 18 and up….so I could just push any needle into the hole(s) to see what size it is………

I have something that does the same thing.Guild chapters make them as fundraisers.
It’s inside a plastic name tag holder to protect it. There’s a card that has the needle sizes & suggested mesh printed at the top. under it is a piece of canvas with a needle in each size poked through.
To use it, just place your needles along side until you find one the same length — that’s the size. It’s so easy to use!
