Kim Smith does the most lovely needlepoint. While many of us swoon at her lovely painted canvases (distributed by Ruth Schmuff), before she designed hand-painted canvases she did lovely charted canvas pieces. One of her specialties was pins.
Included with every piece were instructions for finishing the pins yourself. That’s when she came up with this lovely beaded edge that she describes in this tutorial. It’s easy do because you stitch it before you remover the canvas from the stretcher bars. And it makes a gorgeous finished edge as you see in the picture above.
I love that it’s elegant and neat. It’s also great that conceit’s finished you could even put the needlepoint into a floating frame. It’s also a very budget-friendly way of finishing.
I had forgotten about it and I can’t wait to try it again. I think I’m going to use it on a baby ornament I need to finish.
Thanks Kim!
