Today we’ll begin stitching the flower of our Magnolia Mystery. The three petals that stand straight up are stitched in this step. The stem is also stitched
You’ll be using the dark and medium colors of pink and the brown thread. Stitch the stem in Basketweave using the brown thread.
Stitch the center petal in Tent Stitch using four strands of the dark shade of pink. Divide the four strands into two groups and flip one group so the ends are reversed.
With overdyed threads, it’s easy to get blobs of color and sudden transitions. By reversing direction of two strands you get gradual transitions.
Even so stitch these petals in Continental, not Basketweave.
Stitch the left petal in Continental as well, using four strands of the medium pink. Remember to reverse two of the strands.
Finally stitch the right center petal in Darcy’s Tent Check, below, using four strands of the medium pink. Remember to reverse two of the strands.

Come back next week for the next section of the project!
