Before every market I catch myself wondering if there will be anything great at the show. I also look at the planned columns and think about all those words to write. Inevitably though, I start to see sneaks from shop newsletters and designer’s posts. I get a trade magazines talking about new products, or I start to see Pinterest boards of new items and I get so excited. I end of wishing I could buy just about everything I see.
Burnett & Bradley has added new designs similar to their cookies but with non-cookie backgrounds such as light blue, black, and grey. If you were stitching these canvases as ornaments, this is a great option. They also have delightful new Easter ornaments with a charming lavender background. Kirk & Bradley has a new series of fish in a whimsical sketch/outline style. They also have two new trellis-background florals and a detailed two-sided Santa.
Remember those round Moire jewel cases that were so popular in the 1980’s? Fleur de Paris is bringing them back with 4.5″ round canvases on top. There are dozens of designs combined with several colors of cases. It’s another great self-finishing option. Labors of Love has new canvases with baby sea turtles and starfish near the ocean’s edge. The water’s edge has a bubbly look which, apparently, can be made with an embellishment from Michael’s. They also have a beautiful portrait of a Caribbean woman as well as new perfume bottles.
For folks who love Janet Zickler Casey’s Santas, Danji has added three more painted canvas versions to their line. Also new from Danji are Christmas bells by CH Designs. Lee has lovely new florals with several similar designs in a bright Scandinavian style by their newest artist, Mia Whittemore. They have also added some new self-finishing items, including a new orange alligator luggage tag and a black backpack. Kelly Clark has three new birdhouse canvases plus a set of four lovely and realistic flowers including a gorgeous Tudor Rose. The flowers all have stitch guides available.
Love You More has a delightful series of animal mother and child canvases in a clean modern style on solidly-colored backgrounds. There are nearly a dozen of these rectangular canvases. Sew Much Fun has added superhero shelf sitters to their collection. You can choose from Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Robin, or Wonder Woman. They also have a new 3-D unicorn and a charming canvas with five birdhouses. Some of their holiday cocktails are available as single canvases. They displayed a great finishing idea for them: make stand-ups and add a holder for a place card.
Penny MacLeod has three new canvases of plants. All the have her signature quirky style. Penny MacLeod has tons of new hearts with different themes and patterns.I love the one with a cluster of pink and red squares on a white heart. Lovers of her ladies will particularly like the new additions here including a collage of many faces. Melissa Prince has added four new canvases to her abstract animals series. Her Vespa series has eight new designs including a bride and a cowgirl. She also has six new travel rounds as well as several larger canvases, including one for the Texas State Fair. Zecca has a chess board available in warm or cool colors, There is also a canvas with bright patterns arranged like a Log Cabin quilt block.
Kristine Kingston has adorable monogram ornaments in the shape of Christmas lights. They come with a variety of solid or patterned backgrounds in traditional Christmas colors. Love You More has new hippie canvases plus new nautical canvases, including a wonderful limited edition Moby Dick. There are also new saints including Mary Magdalene and Our Lady of Guadalupe. Alice Peterson has so many new canvases (read about them in the other articles) but my favorite is done like an old-fashioned egg sign but says “Naughty chickens lay deviled eggs.”
Renaissance Designs has a great canvas with a dozen ugly Christmas sweaters. Meredith’s new canvases include bright onesies that could be great birth samplers. Robbyn’s Nest has a bunch of new fleurs de lys and Hamsa hands. She also has two new and striking hippie girls. More hippie designs include peace signs and hands showing the peace symbol. A new designer, 2bit Ranch premiered with several different sayings. Maggie has four new animals by artist Terry Runyon. Jean Smith has some lovely new pastel florals. New canvases from The Collection include a new cottage from Starke Art, new potted herb canvases, and a couple of lovely bowls with lemons in them. They also have two new watercolor jellyfish, patriotic canvases, and plenty of new pastel and country animals.
Ewe and Eye has great new folk art canvases including a delightful snowman and a sunflower with “create happiness” in the center. There is also a wonderful pair of ladybugs in love that is just too cute! Julia has lovely Star of David and a tallit cover with scenes of Jerusalem. Plum Stitchery has lots of new geometrics. She also has some gorgeous realistic fall and winter birds, plus nutcracker roll-ups for each branch of the military.
Kate Dickerson has created many of her most popular designs in a new red, white, and blue color scheme. Melissa Shirley always has lots of new designs. New Vicki Sawyer canvases include a great French bulldog with a trumpetvine flower hat. There also a wonderful botanical illustration magnolia along with a quartet of bird’s nests. A new artist, Elizabeth Foster, was a hit with her delightful bike-riding fox with a bunny passenger. She also has two topiary birds. Her other licensed artists also have plenty of new designs.
