I recently came across a fun list of acronyms for quilters. Some of them are familiar, but many are ones it would be great to start using. Here’s an adapted list:
- LNS – local needlepoint store
- WIP – work in progress
- UFO – unfinished object
- PHD – project half done
- SABLE – stash accumulation beyond life expectancy
- NESTY – not eveN started yet
- TIH – there is hope
- WITHWIT – what was I thinking
- HDA – happy dance
- SEX – stash enhancement experience
- DH – dear husband (also DS – dear son and DD – dear daughter)
- SIL – sister-in-law or son-in-law (also DIL, daughter, MIL, mother)
- SAL – stitch along
- SWAN – society of women addicted to needlework
- SINS – stuff I’ll never stitch
- FFO – finally finished object
- StRIP – stash reduction implementation plan
Plus some more serious ones:
- HPI – holes per inch
- CS – cross stitch
- HP – hand painted, as in canvas
- HD – hand dyed
- NP – needlepoint
- OOP – out of print
- PC – plastic canvas
- XS – cross stitch
- CCS – counted cross stitch
- ORT – old ratty thread
- RR – round robin
