I’m so excited about my 2017 club to learn stitches, Shiny & Bright Ornaments. The club consists of 12 needlepoint ornaments inspired by the iconic Shiny Brite ornaments from the 50’s and 60’s.
Many of us had these ornaments on our trees growing up. Their modern style makes such a great addition to your Christmas decorations. You’ll reproduce that style in stitches with this monthly club.
Even better the club projects will teach you two or more new stitches!
The projects are designed to go together featuring three great shapes and wonderful Rainbow Gallery threads. You’ll be able to stitch the ornaments using the suggested threads or mix and match colors for a collection that is unique to you. If you want all blue ornaments or all pink ones, this club will help you. A bonus lesson will cover the threads used and show pictures of vintage ornaments so you can plan a customized color scheme if you like.
In every monthly email project you’ll get complete instructions, suggested thread list, a color picture of the completed design, and the template to trace you ornament. Everything will come to your email as a PDF — no groups to join, no special software to use.
The club officially opens for registration on November 15. When it does the cost will be $75 for the one-time annual payment or $7.50 when billed monthly. If you sign up fir the club now, your cost will be only $50! That’s a savings of 1/3 off the regular annual fee and over 45% off the monthly fee.
With such big savings, this early sign-up price is only available as a one-time payment.

What 3 shapes will be used? Can I adapt the patterns if I don’t want to make a stocking, for example, and want a diamond shape instead? Thank you for your reply!
Good question. The shapes are round, bell, and a skinny ogee. These are all shapes found in the vintage ornaments. I don’t see why you couldn’t do them in different shapes.
Keep stitching,
Janet
Thank you! Is a skinny ogre like an icicle shape?
Nope, it’s slightly pointed on both ends and round in the middle. On this page (https://www.dreamstime.com/stock-illustration-christmas-ornaments-pattern-red-gold-seamless-image57835066) it is the shape in the top row, third from the left.
Keep stitching,
Janet
Excuse the newbie question (never joined a stitching club before). Do we buy blank canvases (what dimensions and count) and trace the pattern you send? So is it then counted work? Sorry, just trying to imagine how this works. I’m interested, but don’t want to get into something that may be beyond my newbie skills.
You’ll buy blank 18-mesh canvases and you will trace the ornament onto the canvas (this isn’t hard and instructions will be included).
Once traced, you’ll follow the instructions to stitch the areas. Even though the canvas is not colored, stitching it is more like stitching a hand-painted canvas than like counted canvas.
Counted Canvas starts out with a blank canvas with no drawing on it.
This should be within your skills as a new needlepointer.
Keep stitching,
Janet
Thanks, Janet. I’m gonna go for it. In fact, I just have. ๐
Can you tell me how much canvas to buy and what we use to trace the design (pencil, marker, etc.)
Or am I just being impatient and it will all come with the first month’s offering?
Marie
I thought I’d already replied to your comment, but it’s disappeared. Oh well, user error I’m sure. ๐ Anyway, thanks for the reply–you convinced me, and I just ordered it.
Can we know in advance how much canvas to buy, what size stretcher bars are appropriate, and what is good to use for the tracing? Or do I just need to curb my impatience and wait until it starts. ๐
Marie
Not user error, it’s that comments are held in moderation until approved to prevent spam.
You’ll get all this information again at the beginning of the class but I know some of it:
— all the canvas is 18-mesh
— you can use white or the white with silver flecks or white with opal flecks as well. If you are using canvas from your stash (I did) light colors will work for all but four of them. Two of these will have to be white or white with opal and two can be white grey or cream (no blue or green.
— stretcher bars should be 5″ 6″ and 7″. Two pairs of each will be plenty.
For tracing you’ll need an extra fine pen for marking fabric. My two favorites are SC-UF from Pilot and Pigma Microns from Sakura. Pigmas are easier to find. I see them at Paper Source, quilt shops, chain hobby stores and art supply stores.
Keep stitching,
Janet
Thanks so much for the wonderful info. ๐
Marie
Thank you so much for your complete and helpful answers! I’m so excited about this project!
Hi Janet, I signed up for this class and I am looking forward to it. I was wondering when it will start. I didn’t receive any confirmation except the one from PayPal and the credit card statement so I wanted to make sure I am not missing anything. Thanks for your hard work!
It starts around January 10.
Keep Stitching,
Janet
