I am fascinated by dyes and dyeing your own threads and canvas. I’ve tried it many times, starting in the 70’s when I dyed Persian Wool and made a sampler of stutches from The Needlepoint Book with them.
But I find myself caught up short whenever I think about doing this more consistently. My problem always is color; I never know what to buy. If you give me a choice between two colors I will pick one without hesitation. I even do pretty well if confronted with 5 or even 7 colors.
But give me a huge range of choices and I’m stuck. The writer of the blog A Stitch or Nine has a similar problem — what is the right range of colors for a beginner?
