Shops and designers are packing up from this weekend’s TNNA Market. Many shops are returning home with goodies that they will be showcasing in the next weeks.
Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday I’ll be letting you know about great new products that have just come out. Friday I’ll be summarizing trends I’m seeing in the market. If you want to learn about other new items appearing this month, many at this market, check out my TNNA previews, Part 1 and Part 2.
Kreinik is introducing a new kind of 1/16″ ribbon. Called Chevron Ribbon, it is supposed to add more color and dimension to your projects. There are five colors.
Rainbow Gallery has an exciting new thread out. Called Entice, it is a “sparkling braid for 18 ct. needlepoint.” It is available in 23 colors. They also have new colors in all sizes of Silk Lamé, 2 new colors of Soft Sheen Fyre Werkes, four new colors of Neon Rays +, and three new Petite Frosty Rays.
Planet Earth has not only added a new size to their ribbon line, they have added a new ribbon. The Silk Haboutai ribbon is 1.5″ width and is a biased cut silk, ideal for larger projects and other crafts. They have also added new colors in several of their threads: three new colors in Planet Earth silk and 6-ply silk, and four new colors in wool. In their opal line they have two new blues, great for watery backgrounds.
Sundance is bringing back raffia into their line. This straw-like fiber can be manipulated so that it’s either thick or thin. Designer Barbara Elmore calls the colors “lovely.”
Raymond Crawford has a new series of canvases of the nine Ancient Greek muses in a style similar to that of his eggs and chickens. The are “portrait” style with frames and borders. Tony Minieri did the inventive stitch guides.
I’ll cover more on Wednesday, but among Melissa Shirley’s new canvases are a new series of Valentine hearts, a series of chicks in hats from Vicky Sawyer, some adorable animals for Easter (a chick driving an Easter basket car and a rabbit driving a carrot car). Plus there is a simply wonderful new addition to her basket series, for Easter, where the flowers are joined by a bunny, some chicks, and colored eggs.
Barbara Bergsten has a wonderful new set of eyeglass cases. Four have glasses in silhouette on them and two are patchwork. She also has three beachy theme kiss canvases, three new patterns in shifts and Bermuda bags, and a new patchwork Christmas tree. She also has canvases that have letters in each quadrant of a package and a set of patterned stitch cookie cutter-shaped Christmas trees. These would be a perfect first project for a new stitcher.
Unique New Zealand has added canvases from the work of Scottish artist Vicky Mount. She specializes in animal designs, especially cats. The fat black cat with the sign “Feed Me” could be one of mine. There are also new canvases by Mindy Carpenter including a stitcher with a cat pincushion and a “carpe diem” project bag, new sayings, several stunning new Anna See canvases (I can’t decide which one I want most), and many canvases based on world art and interior design trends.
Whimsy & grace’s newest shape is a small change purse. The series is available in many of her popular patterns and they come in several different shapes. Some look like small purses with gussets, others are flat or fold over with flaps.
Silver Needle has added fruit mini-socks, pillows in traditional floral designs, new travel rounds, and a large stocking of an old=fashioned New England village scene.
Annie Hall has several new designs, and some are in a new 5″ square size. My favorite is “Chicken” which has the hen, Henrietta, stuck on top of a kitchen stool by a trio of mice.
The combo of Carole Lake & Micheal Boren have a new book coming out, Desert Island Stitches. It’s a smaller book, the first of several that will cover the stitches they want with them on a desert island. This volume covers stitches for smaller spaces.
Sharon G has another book in the works that’s expected in the spring.
Julia Snyder’s newest title is Just My Stitches and covers more stitches she uses often.
Embellishments & More
Copper Mesh is a new stitching “fabric,” created for making dimensional appliques. You can see it in action in Kim Smith’s new Dragonfly Wings design, available from Ruth Schmuff.
New to Planet Earth Fibers is a set of fifteen sterling silver embellishments, sold individually. They include stars, hearts, leaves, and more. These should be in your local shops this week.
Sundance also has new silver spangles and embellishments.
Colonial Needle has added several items to their self-finishing line. The 3″ round boxes are now available in two colors of suede. The jewelry box has three new snakeskin colors. A new ornament round has been added to the line. It’s a generous 5.25 inches.
