It all started with a page in Amy Bunger’s newsletter about ornaments from Rogue Needlepoint for various TV shows. Since we are big fans of different shows and I make needlepoint ornaments for everyone in my family each year, I thought this would be a great idea.
There was just one tiny problem: most of our favorite shows were not in the designs. I commissioned ones, so that I would have two for each person in the family.
My husband’s ornament for this year is for Monty Python’s Flying Circus. As you can see it is the foot from the opening credits on a solid blue background. (Watch the credits here.) It’s fine as far as it goes but folks will wonder why we have a foot on our tree.
So I have decided to add some things. First off the foot comes down at the end of the credits onto the ground and squishes the title. I have added a line for the ground, which will be stitched with Straw Silk. You can’t see it swell, but there is a bit of a letter sticking out near the smallest toe. It will just be black Tent Stitch.
The blue will remain the sky and will be stitched in an overdyed Pearl Cotton.
That pretty accurately captures the last image in the credits.
But my DH wants more, he wants the name of the show. There is no way “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” will fit anywhere in a 2.5″ round, so I’m going with initials. They will be stitched in metallic in the grass.
UPDATE (6/6/16): The piece is finished and you can see the completed project above. The ground is Straw Silk in Dotted Swiss and the letters are Soft Sheen Fyre Werks. The background is in a variegated pearl from my stash in Diagonal Sky from Stitches 4.
Look for another blog stitching post on Tuesday!
