The center patch on the right, just above the previous patch, has a tied Cross Stitch. Tied stitches are stitches where a second stitch or stitches goes over the original stitch (or part of it) tying that stitch to the canvas. Ties stitches often create areas of dense texture, as id the case here.
Often the ties are stitched in a second color. That makes them good candidates for the Color through Gold technique.
Today’s stitch is Double Tied Oblong Cross, above. It begins with an Oblong Cross that covers two threads horizontally and five threads vertically. The middle of the cross is then tied with two straight stitches going over two threads.
You might be wondering why I have not been specifying threads or colors. The inspiration for this piece is a scrap quilt. As is the case with all scrap quilts, the colors are placed randomly. Just don’t put the same color next to each other; this creates visual “holes” in your piece.
Come back in two weeks for the next patch. Next week a new blog stitching piece.
