This week we finish up the patches with the minor color patches on our sampler. It’s hard to see on the picture because the color is so dark, but this parch is a really neat version of Diagonal Cashmere.
You probably think, as I did, that this stitch has an oblique diagonal direction. I like it because that’s an odd direction for needlepoint stitches. As the stitch gets wider and longer, it stops having this direction and almost looks as if it is Offset Cashmere.
A problem with almost all offset versions of stitches is that they are offset in one direction only. The rows in the second direction stay the same. By doing this stitch, both directions of the stitch are offset, but subtly.
Make the stitch in diagonal rows beginning in one corner of the patch. I have made the diagram in two colors so you could see the rows clearly, but stitch the patch in one color, your darkest minor color.
It’s a great stitch!
Because it’s a bit large, it works best as a background for larger pieces.
