Spring is in the air all around us (here we went from winter 2 weeks ago to summer now) and with it there are some great new needlepoint products.
I’m excited about the many new colors in threads out there.
The Gentle Art has brought out five limited edition colors in floss: root beer barrel, jelly heart, bunny trail, Easter grass, and mint chocolate. They come in 5-yard skeins in lovely semi-solid colors. They have also added three new colors to their Simply Shaker floss line. They are sage, misty harbor, and lagoon.
Enmart is a new thread company, making threads for hand and machine embroidery. They are primarily a company that specializes in transfer of images onto garments but they also carry #8 pearl cotton and, I think, embroidery floss.
Straw Silk had added for new colors: hocus-pocus, remolacha, garnet, and manzanilla. If you have lamented the loss of DMC’s lovely matte cotton in the US market, I have great news — it’s back! There are 100 solid colors with an additional 185 colors available on special order. It is packaged in 10m pull skeins (I’ll be reviewing it soon). I adore this thread!
Pepperberry has lots of dogs in Santa hats in 4″ rounds. They also have added a series of eight Christmas rounds including elves and Mrs. Cluas’s cookies. Pippin has added a new shirt & tie design to their series of “Nines.” Because it’s 8″ square on 13 mesh, you could get it finished as a Father’s Day present.
Purple Palm has many new canvases coming out at the TNNA Summer Market in June. These include new designs from Chip Dupont, Ellen Negley, and Erin Nelson. JulieMar has lovely new florals out, including a collage of tropical plants that has sophisticated style in an easy-to-stitch contemporary format. This company has also added a new artist, Prince Duncan-Williams. His design Jazz is a colorful collage of instruments and patterns.
The Artist’s Collection is expecting something more important than new designs — their first grandchild. In honor of that happy event they have lots of new baby sleeping canvases that are adorable in colors and designs that aren’t the usual. My favorite is the black and white elephant with a red bird resting on its trunk. BB Needlepoint Designs is taking inspiration from old-fashioned seed packets with a quartet of 3×5 designs.
Deux Amis has a stunning new shorebirds rug that not only has the birds but a lovely border of seashells, seaweed, and starfish. Kangaroo Paw has added a great new style of ornament to their Greek line, The rounds have a black and white checked bottom and a striped top in the group’s colors. The name is in a box in the middle. If you like Mackenzie-Childs style, these would coordinate nicely.
&more’s licensed artist Bailey Jack, has a lovely new cow design that’s bold with a bright chartreuse background.
