I’m hoping it’s pouring great buckets of rain here in Northern California today. It might be snowing or raining where you are. But then again you might just be craving a look at something really beautiful.
The national dress of Japan, the kimono, can be a very humble garment or it can be enriched with all kinds of wonderful stitching and dyeing techniques. The needlepoint kimono canvases we stitch are usually based on these more elaborate gowns.
That’s one reason why we love them so much.
A stunning exhibit of kimono closed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art recently and there are several great resources to show you these lovely pieces.
Take a look at:
- Plays with Needles Flickr album
- their blog post about the exhibit
- the museum’s album of selected items from the exhibit
Let them inspire your needlepoint, even if it isn’t a kimono.
