UPDATE 2/8: I finally got someone to listen to me & got a cough medicine that works. I haven’t had a spastic coughing/sneezing fit for 17 hours. I got a normal night’s sleepless night, And things are loosening up in my chest. I’m on the mend, but not better.
Thanks for all the good wishes. I should be able to post for tomorrow.
I have needlepointed through some pretty tough times: in pre-labor, in the hospital when they thought I had had a stroke, but I admit defeat.
I have the worst cold I have had in 20 years with a terrible wracking cough accompanied by sneezing fits. It’s been getting worse since Thursday. The cough medicine my doctor gave me gives me, if I’m lucky, one hour of relief in four.
You cannot needlepoint in these circumstances. I cannot hold the needle steady enough to thread it, even with a threader. My thread pulls out when I start it because I cough. And I stitch very slowly.
With luck, the new cough medicine will work and I’ll be back tomorrow.

Yikes, sounds awful!!! Be sure to drink a lot of fluid, it keeps the cough looser. Are you sure you don’t have pneumonia? Sounds like an x-ray is in order. Get better soon.

I needlepoint for pleasure and relaxation so there are definitely times I can’t do it. When I’m overly tired or my mind is just occupied with other thoughts, I have a tough time focusing on stitching. A good friend of mine says she can see the differences in her stitches (although I can’t) if she stitches when angry or stressed.
A cold would definitely affect my concentration — hope you feel better soon.

Please go to bed and rest! There are so many bad viruses out there and they take a while to get over. You work so hard, and I LOVE reading all that you post, so please take this opportunity to rest a little!

I truly feel for you, Janet. I am in my second week of a tenacious sinusbinfection that required two Monday doctor visits last week and this! I thought I felt better so I went out late last week and picked up a virus. I, like you, am a mess. I hope you feel much better soon. I am staying in until at least Sunday and that decision will be made then. Nasty, nasty winter!

Been there done that. Did not accomplish anything. Hard to stitch while in bed starring at the wall but finally after two weeks almost felt human again.Don’t know what is going around but here in the mid Atlantic that is the sickest I have been in years. By the way…..fellow Stitchers antibiotics don’t help a bad cold. Glad you are feeling better .

Janet, I’m glad to hear you are on the mend, but take it slow so that you don’t relapse.
Also, I love the pre-labor stitching; I wish I’d thought of that one. Needlepoint has gotten me thru many medical tests, procedures, etc. In fact, I think that some of my medical providers think I come in to see them because the light in their offices is absolutely fantastic to stitch in.

The freaked out the folks in the maternity ward. But it was my third kid & my third set of pre-labor mess. It’s not like we didn’t know we were in for a long wait . . .
So my DH brought a book, as did I. and I brought simple needlepoint. That offended the staff who told me not to come back unless I REALLY was in labor.
I went to the other hospital where my other kids were born. They told me it was their job to evaluate women who thought they were in labor & to come in 5 times a day if necessary.
Oh well . . .

I had a difficult pregnancy and spent over two months in hospital beforehand.I think I would have gone nuts if I hadn’t had a needle and thread in my hands. Firstly I finished all the embroidery for the baptismal robe and then onto some canvaswork panels for an etui. My bump made a very useful ledge to lean on!

Hi Janet,
Sounds like you have the same thing that I had for about a month, coughing my
head off. It has gone through my whole family. My daughter found this fantastic
cough syrup from whole foods, it’s all natural, they can’t keep it in stock, it’s
called Olbas. It honestly curbed the coughing sensation. Also, I did get antibiotics,
I was concerned about it turning into pneumonia due to all the congestion. I was feeling so much better in a few days. This was probably the worse illness I’ve had in so many years, it seems to be very contagious and lasting for weeks.
Hope you feel better………………
Teri

I’ve used the Albas inhaler for years — it’s great!
Keep stitching,

You just wonder why folks in the medical field don’t realize how helpful handwork can be.
Keep stitching,
