I am still behind (but making progress), so no Sunday stitching for me today. I’ll get back to it next week, with some new stitches I just learned.
If you are full of UFO’s as I am, it’s a constant battle to start a new project, or work on one from your pile of UFO’s. I’ve been thinking about that this week because I needed to find a project. One evening I sat down to go through my pile of Works in Progress by my stitching chair. Even though it is much reduced since the beginning of the year, it has still grown. I wanted to make it more managable by moving some projects to UFO storage.
Doing this is nice because the project pile not only looks neater, those projects can’t make you feel guilty because they are stored away. The bad thing about it is that you will always find projects where you cannot decide whether to abandon or finish.
Sure enough I found one, this Christmas Mary & Jesus from Wooly Dream. I abandoned it because my clever idea for stitching wood did not work. I did not feel like cutting it out, so i just left it in the pile.
Looking at it again I decided that cutting out the wood wasn’t such a huge problem and that the piece deserved to be finished. Why?
I have all the background and the majority of the border stitched.
I have all the threads for the piece, except new thread for the wood.
Many of the areas left to stitch require simple Tent Stitch I could do quickly and easily.
Only two areas that are left will require any decorative stitching and one of these is Gobelin to test another new technique.
It’s back by my stitching chair. When I’ll get to it is anyone’s guess.

This canvas is from Wooly Dreams. The company is no longer in business & hasn’t been for over a decade. You can sometimes find these canvases on eBay.
I collect nativities as well and there are many designers making great nativities these days.
