I received an email this week where the reader said that she was going to try out a stitch by drawing it. This got me thinking about how I work out stitches. It’s a method you can easily adopt yourself.
I use stitch software and Photoshop Elements because I am making diagrams, but you can easily use the same thing with pencil and graph paper.
You have the stitch diagram from the book, blog, or site. You want to try it before you make it on canvas. Take your pencil and draw each stitch as if you were stitching it. This allows you to learn the way the stitch is made, to figure out how it will work without getting out needle, thread, and canvas.
You have just stitched with your mind.
Just this morning I was creating a chart for a project, I used this method to create the diagram.
Stitching with your mind can be very relaxing and can help you learn a stitch in advance.
