For years I’ve been frustrated by the way threads on spools fall off tables and other surfaces. I looked jealously at my knitting friends, who could buy bowls or bags that held the skein safely and fed out from a small hole or slit, allowing for neat use.
I considered all kinds of things. Knitting bowls, even the smallest, were too big. Small bowls had sides that were too low to hold in the spools. I thought about making. a bowl from thread ends, but the results were uneven and too hard to cut. Finally, I considered felt bowls.
These would need to have sides thin enough that I could cut a notch from them. Many of the bowls had sides too thick for this. I bought this felt bowl from Snuggly Monkey. I used my heavy-duty scissors to cut a V notch in the center of one side. Although the bowl is larger than I would like, it worked beautifully to hold the Kreink spool while I was stitching. I could afely leave an end of thread and pull that to get a stitching length.
Using this I can keep the spools corraled and still cut my thread easily.
