At March’s needlepoint market, this new accessory from Merry L was a hit. Many shops that bought them sold out. I have to say this is an incredibly useful and adorable tool. I have lots of ort containers, but this is the one I have next to me when I stitch these days.
Closed it’s about an inch tall, with a ring surrounding it. One side, the bottom, has a fabric-covered disk, above top. The other side has a twist of fabric, above bottom. To open it, pop out the bottom and lift up the ring to straighten the sides. It will sit flat on a table or desk.
Because the sides are soft, you can also slant the ring so that the opening faces you.
The catcher is available in lots of different fabrics and colors. I love paisleys, so I was delighted to find this one.
I’ve been using it for labels and thread ends since I got it. At four inches tall, there’s plenty of room for orts. With the soft sides, it’s not stable enough for regular scisors. I could use it to store my Japanese pen scissors, a pen, or a laying tool. This makes it a great choice to take to classes and workshops.
Last night I inadvertantly found another nice feature. When I finished stitching for the night, I was too tired to empty the catcher. I closed it to bring it to my office. I discovered that the small number of orts and the two floss labels stayed nicely hidden inside the twist until I emptied them.
Find this tool, buy it, use it, and get it as a gift for your friends.
