Remember that old saying “There’s nothing new under the sun?” Well I can apply it to needlepoint this time around. Several years ago I learned about a technique making great raised areas that the stitcher called “wrapped cords.” I was enchanted by these high rounded areas. Ie even used it for branches in my In Bloom book (available here). It’s a really cool effect.
I recently learned, thanks to Pat Dee of Needlepoint for Fun, that one way to do these areas is an old metal embroidery technique called repousse. So it isn’t new, it’s actually quite old.
But you will love her fantastic illustrated tutorial on repousse. Not only do I love the detailed instructions, I also love that she gives us great advice on when to use it.
I’m looking for a piece to try it now.
