When your canvas background is a nice color and you want to show it off, Blackwork is a fantastic choice! There are so many things I love about these backgrounds:

- they add a nice touch of geometry that contrasts nicely with most designs.
- they can give so many different looks depending on your thread and color choice.
This pair of Japanese Bobtail cats is a vintage canvas by Juell, The cats are stitched entirely in Tent using Medici. I continued with the Oriental theme by creating a Blackwork pattern from a Chinese lattice. This pattern is also similar to many Japanese geometrics. The squares and rectangles set off the curves of the cats nicely. The pattern is called Shoji Screen,
