This charming stitch is from Whimsical Stitches and shows how effective a slightly open stitch can be effective on a painted area. As you can see in the stitch diagram, Open Interrupted Satin Stitch, below, has sets of three open intersections. If you wanted to make a full coverage stitch, Filled Interrupted Satin Stitch, add Tent Stitches in the open intersections.
Look at the stitched patch again, you’ll see that by using a matching thread and leaving the intersections open, you get more texture in that the canvas is lower than the stitch. If your project can use open stitches, this can be very effective.
