The Bitty Box is a charming small, 2″ square, leather box. It has an opening for needlepoint in the top. Planet Earth makes them in several colors. They also make complete kits of them. It’s one of the kits I tested.
The kit includes the box, a computer-printed 18-mesh canvas, cards of Essential silk/wool thread to stitch the canvas, and a pretty striped drawstring bag to use as a project or gift bag.
The box has a top that folds over and secures with a concealed magnet. Inside, it’s lined with a grey-and-white striped fabric. There are three tiny fabric-covered rolls that can hold earrings or rings, below.
The canvas is computer-printed. The colors are not placed perfectly on all intersections but are close. It’s like the difference between painted and stitch-painted canvases.
Finishing was more difficult than other Planet Earth pieces I’ve done. The mall size and the top’s stiffness made the adhesive covering hard to remove. Instead of coming off in one piece, it ripped in several places, especially at the edges. To remove these bits, I used tweezers and lifted the edges. Once the paper was off, placing the canvas and finishing the box was easy.
Among the several kits available for the boxes, there are two tooth fairy boxes. These boxes would be perfect if you are looking for something like this but want a quick option.
I liked the look & finish of these boxes and kits. They are easy to stitch and quick to finish. Stitched up, they make wonderful gifts.
