I love the girliness of this block of the sampler. The pink background and the curvy letter complement each other so well.
This large curvy L is from Tink’s Gallery 24 alphabet in L Alphabets Fun and Fabulous.
The background is done in Needlepoint Stem Stitch. This stitch is a variation of Alternating Diagonal Gobelin, with every other row accented with a line of Backstitches down the middle. This stitch is not a place for subtlety in choosing the accent color. It must be a different value, color, or thread. Otherwise, the line of Backstitches disappears. It should also be a thinner thread. In this case, I use Silk & Ivory as the main thread and two strands of a dark hot pink Burmilana for the accents.
While the accent is a row of Backstitches, they do not have to be over one thread. In this case, most of them are over two threads and some are over three.
It’s a fun stitch.
