Creating curly hair on canvas can be a significant problem for many stitchers. Curly hair has an unordered look that just doesn’t work well with most stitches. In the past, I’ve used Peluche for curly hair on smaller pieces, like the Needledeeva king pictured below.
On sheep, I’ve used Fluffy Fleece to make fur, as I did on this Annie Lave coaster, below.
Neither of these work particularly well when you see the face closer to you. Jane of Chilly Hollow has an excellent tutorial on making wild curls in her blog — ruching. She uses YLI Ribbon Floss in the tutorial. You can use the same process for Neon Rays or even metallic ribbons.
But you can ruche with any multi-ply thread. Follow the instructions in the tutorial but grab one ply of the slightly separated thread.
