First, thanks to all who made suggestions about the mystery bird on my canvas. I looked at them all and while some were close, none was right.
So I spent some quality time searching. The bird you see pictured here, from a stock photo site, is very close. Unhappily there was no identifying information.
If you know what this bird is, leave a comment.
On the stitching front I finished stitching the crab and will work on the birds today.

Long Tailed Finch

I believe that this is some type of Finch. Take a look at the Heck’s Shaft-tail Finch. The beak is the same shape and color. The feet, too. Black marking from eye to beak is the same. The black slash at the lower side. The stock picture is more intense in color, but the markings are very similar. If your bird isn’t a Heck’s finch, he may be a variation or other type of related finch.

A birding friend of mine says it is a Zoo bird and a rarity. Where was this picture taken?
Janet M Perry says
That’s part of the problem. The picture is from a stock photo site. It has no information on where it was taken or when it was taken, I checked.
It’s so frustrating.
Keep stitching,
Janet

LOL…the ‘zoo’ bird comment was a joke this friend and my husband have – that I wasn’t in on – but with further conversation he agrees with the comments above that it is in the finch family. He offered to consult with the experts (his mom and dad) for additional identification! 🙂
