I may have raely left my house in the past six wees, but that isn’t stopping my stitching! I’ve bought lots of canvases, some threads, and worked on plenty of projects. Although I am stitching more slowly than I would like, progress is being made.
With the lockdown, most shops are cloised to walk-in traffic. Judging from the shopowners I talk to, lots of us are buying canvases to enhance our stashes. I love the way shops and designers are being creative about SAB;E. Many are having virtual trunk shows where you shop the designer’s site and call the shop to order. Other shops are promoting specific canvases or designers on their blogs or on Facebook.
For those who are more video-savvy than I am, there are virtual classes and stitch-ins using ZOOM. If you are missing the consultations at your shop when they pull threads to kit a canvas, shops are offering video sessions or sending you plenty of pictures as they pick your threads.
I love all the creativity shops are showing in this! For those of us far from physical shops, theswe online eventsare giving us plenty of chances to forge a relationship with a shop.
On the shopping side, you probably don’t want to be like the dogs in Up!, easily distracted. To avoid buyer’s regret you’ll want to shop with a plan. Think about the needlepoint you normally stitch.
Is a new baby or a wedding coming up in your family? Now is a gret time to buy a special canvas to make for the event.
Do you collect canvases bu a particular artist or on a specific subject? Look to find one of these to give you a new project that will make you happy.
Do you stitch ornaments for friends, family, or exchanges? I do and I have been using this time to buy canvases for future years.
Knowing that I’m helping small businesses, which have been hit badly by the lockdown. as well a knowing I have some happy canvases to stitch is certainly making me happy. Being happy because of needlepoint is making the other lockdown-related irritations in my life less onerous.
As for my current projects, I:
- finished one ladt night (you’ll see it Thursday
- am waiting for a thread to finish a Hearts for Hospice (1 of 2 in process)
- made progrees on a new stitch guide that will be out May 1 or so
- worked on an ornament for my DH
