Lord Libidan’s excellent cross stitch blog has a great post on making your own needleminders. His ideas range from really simple to those that are a bit more crafty.
I’ve tried most of these, plus several others, and use these needleminders often.
I want to add some tips:
- Be sure to use Rare Earth magnets for your needle minders. Other magnets are not strong enough.
- Try to match the size of the top magnet to the size of the decorative top. This gives you the right amount of space for your needle.
- Use superglue of some kind to attach magnets to fronts.
- Some kinds of metals will not take to superglue. I have seven fronts sitting on my desk waiting for a better glue. You can’t tell these until you try to make a minder. I’ll keep you posted on my results.
