Although if I had to pick one color I’d be I think it would be teal. I do love this color in its entire range. I like it so much I painted my front door teal and will be repainting the house in a color go well with the door.
But I will also say that I change color preferences often. So my Favorite color at any moment can change, something I find fascinating. And even worse my favorites colors in a thread often have absolutely NO bearing on my favorite colors. Right now I’m loving a bright yellow-orange color in Dinky Dyes that in anything else I’d avoid.
In spite of all of this I think we all have color comfort zones. These may be our favorite colors, or they may share a common level of value or saturation, or they may be the colors that look good on us. These are the colors that are more present in our stash, the colors we’ll pick for projects.
I realized how bad I was when I stitched a project for my ANG chapter a few years ago. It was based on a skein of Watercolours. I picked the one in my stash the least like me. I was supposed to use stash threads. When it was done it looked like a normal piece of mine, not one using this weird thread.
That made me realize I was in a rut. Since then I go out of my way to stitch things in color schemes I wouldn’t normally pick. Sometimes I’m surprised at how much I like them, as in the little heart Twinchies pictured here. Sometimes I am less pleased as in the Bargello heart from Needlepointers pictured below.
Even so, I love to play with color and try new things. But press me and I’ll take teal every time.

I am behind in reading my E-mails. I just clicked on this one from June with this fun bargello heart. I am not totally in love with the colors but am very intrigued with the design. I love greens but also most any colors. Teal seems to be quite popular too. I promised myself I would get back into stitching and want to do something fun. Is this heart a published design of yours? Where can I find it? I am trying to use stuff from my stash since my husband is furloughed one day a week. Also, how big is it? Any help would be appreciated.

There are two heart designs in the post. The set of four small hearts are all on the blog. Here are the links:

The larger heart is a design by Pat Mazu that was published in Needlepointers, ANG’s magazine several years ago (2-3 I think).
Keep Stitching,
