I don’t know about you but I have a love/hate relationship with both perle cotton and perle silk.
I love to stitch with it. I think it’s the perfect thread for beginning stitchers. I love it’s strength zand sheen.
BUT
I hate that the color selection, no matter the thread, is always more limited than that of the stranded threads by the same manufacturer.
And for some companies, they constantly reduce your choices so even if you’ve liked and used a particular color, you may not find it again.
It drives me nuts!
But did you know that you can make your own perle threads? As long as you have a stranded thread you can do this.
Making your own thread puts you in control. You pick the fiber, you pick the color (or colors), you pick the thickness.

Where can I find the instructions for “How to Make Your Own Pearl Cotton”?
Janet M Perry says
I believe that site is no longer there. If I rember correctly, the process is basically using strands of floss and twisting it as if it was a twisted cord. The twisting will make i look like pearl cotton. However to get the thinner thicknes of pearl as opposed to the twisted cord yu use on finished items is using fewr strands.
Keep stitching,
Janet
