While TNNA had tons of great new canvases, not every designer attends. This column looks at great new canvases from several designers who were not at the show.
Shelly Tribbey has lots of new ornaments, many in her signature color combination of pink, red, aqua, and green. I really liked the pink gingerbread house, which is adorable, and the mod Joy ornament with trees. She also has three new feather trees as well as two new mini-skates. For Halloween she has a wonderful haunted house and several other witchy canvases. She also has a stunning nativity triptych. Finally a new item for her creche is a panda and a tiger.
&more’s new artist, Bailey Jack, was covered in one of the preview posts. The company also has added several Valentine-themed sayings canvases in a variety of colors. Julia Snyder also has a new book out, Love It or Rip It.
Tapestry Fair has added a new artist, Leland Holiday. Here’s what their blog says about him: “a Navajo artist living on the reservation in New Mexico. His original art is featured at the Toh-Atin Gallery (www.toh-atin.com) as well as other galleries in Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and New York.” The first canvas from him is a wonderful coyote. There will be more soon. Also new from them, I think, are rock painting canvases and “Fugly” rounds which are variations on computer icons and emojis.
Unique NZ has a wide variety of new canvases. There are several saying canvases about food and wine. Talavera tiles are represented with two squares featuring quartets of tiles. Several of their new canvases feature flowers in realistic, mid-century, and retro designs. There are also new bee and honey canvases and two great preppy flowers that have a single flower against a background that looks like fabric. They look like such fun to stitch.
Cooper Oaks has new canvases from several of their artists. There is a simply wonderful clipper ship on a large canvas. Smaller, but striking, is a black swan in a style that reminds me of pub signs. If you are looking for canvases for boys, there are two, one of a steam engine and one of a bi-plane.
Julia’s Needleworks brings us plenty of new canvases to love. I really like the new crosses. There are five of them with plenty of places for bling. There are also many lovely traditional angels with gowns in various colors. A new artist for them features lovely canvases of people in the Caribbean.
Dream House Ventures has new canvases from many artists. Carolyn Manning has canvases I want — right now. There are two each of patchwork designs and seasonal Labyrinths. The final new design has stylized flowers in a setting that reminds me of Quaker samplers. Elements has many lovely new geometrics in different sizes. They also have a series of crosses with Talavera-like design elements on a silver background. Finally there are five canvases that are in a patchwork style, combining Arts & Crafts elements with lighter, more modern colors.
TNNA Coverage
This article is part of my extensive coverage of the Winter 2017 Needlework Market from TNNA and other new needlepoint products. Previously, there were two preview posts (here and here) and a post about what happens at a trade show.
The bulk of the coverage was last week. Monday had information about threads and tools. Wednesday began the coverage of great new canvases that continued Thursday and Friday. Saturday’s article was about trends.
Tomorrow read an article finishing up TNNA coverage with more new products.
