Designers are starting to show us peeks at their newest products. Although the Winter TNNA Market does not happen for about ten days, I’ll be doing new product articles on Mondays and Thursdays until at least February 1.
Raymond Crawford introduced his Grinch line several months ago. His newest canvases expand that to include a large Grinch figure and a great Grinch Christmas stocking. One of the most interesting needlepoint ideas I’ve seen in awhile is from Leigh Designs. She has several new designs in various styles for tissue boxes. These are not for the square “boutique” boxes but for the longer, more flat boxes. We often see issue box covers in plastic canvas, but having them as painted canvas is a new idea.
Kangaroo Paw has a series of patriotic angels, one in this series is an Olympic angel in red, white, and blue. Susan Roberts has a lovely new seahorse canvas. Alice Peterson has added a new bookshelf canvas. Mostly text on the book spines, the canvas is for fashionistas. They also have several other “fashionable” canvases including some lovely ladies and a killer pair of red high heels with bows.
Pippin has lots of great new canvases. One is five pairs of glasses. Another is a Halloween sampler. The different panels in that sampler are also available as single canvases. The candy panel is my favorite. Deux Amis has new needlepoint cummerbunds, including ones with penguins and flamingos. BB Needlepoint Designs has a new series of six birdhouse canvases, showcasing lots of different styles. The canvases are 4″ square and on 18 mesh.
& more has come up with an alternative to tacks or staples for attaching canvases to stretcher bars — velcro! The strips are self-adhesive. Put the hook side on the bars and the loop side on your canvas. Puffin & Co has several great new needle minders and threaders. There is a wonderful elephant and a great leaping bunny. Rainbow Gallery will be adding new colors to Rainbow Persian, bringing the total to 70 colors. Painter’s Threads has new packging for their metallic braids. They are now coming on spools similar to Trebizond.
DJ Designs has more lovely new canvases based on elaborate chintz fabrics. HSN Designs is expanding the offerings from Clara Wells. They have taken several of the handbag designs and turned them into striking, graphic brick covers. Voila has added new colors and designs to their popular market totes.
The Meredith Collection is expanding the line of Charley Harper ornaments to include some of his most popular designs. They are also making matching needle minders for several of the canvases. The same company has a great new stocking cuff with an old-fashioned car on it. They also have a great new series of snowmen, that could almost be a monthly series. You can get them as single rounds or as a longer canvas with the whole bunch!
Annie Lane’s newest series is called “Calendar Critters,” with a new design for each month. You’ll find all of your favorites in the series in appropriate settings and attire for the month. The canvases are 4″ square on 18 mesh. I just love them. Kirk & Bradley has new Easter eggs with lots of great geometric patterns. Pepperberry also has a new series, this one of wintry scenes, including lighthouses and topiary trees. It’s called the Seaside Collection and it combines beachy items, for example a tree decorated with shells, with Christmas standards and colors..
A designer for JulieMar, Karen Dukes, has a lovely underwater scene with goldfish added to her line of florals and animals. Susan Roberts has a great canvas showing a collection of Santa figures on a shelf. The green canvas means you can lightly stitch the background for a great effect. I love the new round ornament from The Point of it All. It’s for those who hold the key to your heart. They also have several charming bike canvases that are oval and great for ornaments. One of these is a red tricycle pulling a load of flowers.
Are you a stitcher who remembers stitching Quickpoint and wishes you could find large-mesh canvas? Zweigartr is now making rug canvas with a blue line grid for easy counting. It’s available in 3.3, 3.75, and 5 meshes. Silver Needle, which holds the license for Paddington products has a charming 16″ Paddington doll. Textured stitches will make this design a treat.
Please remember that links are not included to the products. Information for these articles is gathered from many sources, not all of them available on-line. In addition many designers do not update their sites until during or after the show. In order to be fair to everyone, links are not given.
