In this owl I used:
- Dinky Dyes 149 Mardi Gras
- Grandeur G836 (green)
- Elegance E993 (yellow)
- Kreinik #8 850
Trace the outline of the owl onto your canvas. Remember that the owls and the tip of the top triangle are represented by dots and transfer them as well. From the middle dot, draw two diagonal lines to make the top triangle.
Head
Stitch the triangle in the top middle in Basketweave using Grandeur.Outline the rest of the owl in Tent and Reverse Tent using the same thread.
I used large flat circle beads for the eyes. They were sewn on after all other stitching was done.
The face was stitched in Dan-tsunai, or zig-zag, below, using Kreinik. You can use thinner than normal threads for Blackwork, You still have complete coverage, but with thinner lines.
Left Side
Stitch the left side in Cypress Fence below, using Dinky Dyes. The pattern is a woven one, based on the way fences are constructed. It would be great for stitching a basket, over either colored canvas or on top of Tent Stitch.
Right Side
Stitch the right side in Hokusai, below, using Elegance. This interlocking pattern is adapted from the design on a kimono in a woodblock.
