My favorite of the many new canvases out this spring comes from KCN. It’s an Easter countdown calendar. You’re probably thinking that with the date of Easer changing each year how can they do this? It’s simple, there are no dates. The backing is an Easter basket with space for eight small eggs. The small eggs have pretty blue and white geometric patterns on them. You’ll put on on each day from the day before Palm Sunday to Holy Saturday. I love it!
Gayla Elliot has a pretty canvas of a bouquet in a Mason jar, perfect for a country kitchen. Carol Curtis has added to her lovely flowers with a canvas of pansies in clay pots. Marcy Covington has a lovely shell wreath on light blue that has plenty of space for great techniques. An adorable new canvas from Birds of a Feather is “Gnomes of the Forest,” with gnomes and mushrooms in a vintage picture-book style. Susan Roberts has a cool canvas of six mid-Century Modern fish and a blue color scheme. A new large canvas from Charley Harper is for the Everglades. There are also new ornament-sized versions of his designs.
New from Tapestry Fair are two birds, a quail or a roadrunner against a sunrise. Another unusual pair is an elaborate owl or bobcat on bright solid backgrounds. These are quite unusual and would be great stitched. There is a bright Easter angel from Ann Speiss Mills as well as a bunch of Andy Warhol-style cats and dogs. Finally, there is a design called “Little Indian” that shows an Indian child peeking out from behind a blanket. it’s available as a scissors case or an eyeglass case.
A Stitch in Time has four canvases for a kid’s room with four simple animal heads. These would also be great beginners canvases. Two lovely canvases from KCN feature designs based on Polish cut paper designs. These are of flowers in a cool or bright color scheme. There is a third design that’s similar with Hungarian flowers and peppers. I am crazy about Stitch Style’s new Traeger smoker ornament. Although ours is black, not copper, I already have it on pre-order. 3K has a lovely new canvas featuring big red apples on a tree.
If you liked Melissa Shirley’s elegant witches you’ll love several of her new Halloween canvases. There’s a canvas of five ladies lined up to go to a [party and a Mary Lake Thompson canvas of a many-petticoated with who has fallen into a teacup. A new canvas has succulents in a white bowl (I wish those in my garden looked so good). She has a new Santa in traditional colors available in many shapes and sizes. A fun canvas is of a winter flamingo who is wearing a peppermint bedecked scarf. Another Mary Lake Thompson design has a snowman mug with a winter arrangement in it. There are also lots of new full-size stockings.
The Meredith Collection has a new larger collage for a Farmer’s Market. There are also new seasonal collages for spring and autumn. Pip & Roo has a pair of designs on one canvas to be needlepoint cuffs for your clothes. This set has bright tropical fish. A superb canvas from VNG is of Antarctica, in an angular modern style. Griffin Designs has a new very pretty quartet of single flowers in frames with floral embellishments. Chris Lewis has bold new pillow canvases that look like elaborate blue-and-white tiles.
Alice Peterson has a line-up of make-up tools and products including lipsticks, mascaras, and brushes (I love the leopard print mascara bottle). The company also has a round with a golf ball on a tee — with a difference. The golf ball has an ornament top. Alice Peterson has a new stained glass tallit bag as well as new Hamsa hands. She also has a new stack of books canvas with all the Harry Potter books. I like the company’s safari jeep canvas with a hippo driving and a slew of animals riding along. Another cool canvas has a lineup of patterned pumpkins.
