I have been somewhat lazy in bringing you all up-to-date on new things in the world of thread. Today we’ll get caught up with lots of news.
First off, DMC is bringing out 35 new colors of floss, either in late October or early November. The pictures have numbers on them from 1-34 but it’s possible they won’t be the final numbers. The word I have heard is that initially they will only be available as a set. This is something DMC is doing pretty often with new colors and threads.
Gloriana has introduced a new thread, a silk/wool blend called Pashima. I have no other details but have requested some to test. They have also added seven new colors to their silk floss. Two of them have two colors in one family: Pewter & Pewter Light and Blue Spruce & Blue Spruce Light. I’m really intrigued by the color name Whisky Marmelade though. Duchess Silk has also added the two Blue Spruce shades, Au Ver a Soie has added three new pinks. Although there is a light, medium, and dark shade, they are not the same color family.
Another silk, Trebizond, has added four lovely wine colors this year. The darkest shade just came out. They also have five new colorsof pink, in two color families, and three new yellow-greens. brown paper packages has added a lovely yellow, Maize, and three new blue-violets: Lavender, Clementis, and Morning Glory.
Overdyed Thread News
Classic Colorworks has two new colors of overdyed floss: Stormy Night and Thundercloud. Weeks has four new floss colors: Garrison Green, Cinnamon Twist, Shepherd’s Blue, and Paris Green. Gentle Art came out with three new colors earlier this year: Lagoon, Sage, and Misty Harbor.
Threadworx has six new colors of overdyed floss. Caron has introduced 15 new colors to three of their overdyed threads: Watercolours, Waterlilies, and Wildflowers. I only saw the colors in a group but there is one “almost white,” several semi-solids, and one bright multi-color in the bunch, along with ones that have more varied shades of a single color.
Discontinued Threads
Peluche thread is being discontinued. Some shops have it on special so it’s a good time to stock up on this great hair thread.
DMC will no longer be importing their Tapestry Wool in hanks to the US. You will only be able to buy it in the smaller skeins. That’s a shame because wool is gaining popularity everywhere else.
YLI has made the decision to stop selling their silk ribbons in the US. Whether this will affect ribbon floss is unknown.
You probably know that Anchor’s pearl cotton is no longer available in the US. Anchor has changed their distributon structire in the US and some colors of Tapestry Wool may be discontinued.
