From Whimsical Stitches, volume 2, I was intrigued by this little stitch the moment I saw it. I was so happy to use it as a background for this Kathy Schenkel Tag. As you can see, it creates a fairly dense background.
It will look best in thinner threads; thicker ones will overwhelm the small open spaces. I used Rainbow Linen, it’s about as thick as I would want to use.
Although it can work on just about any project, I really like the way the almost-striped feel echoes the vertical look of these letters. It makes a great background for small pieces and works as a textured stitch for small areas.
The stitch is called Alternating Little V’s, diagrammed below. It can be found in the Small Stitches section of the book.
