I came across this stitch from Whimsical Stitches in my files recently. I saw interesting possibilities for using this stitch for an ornament as I looked at it. Here’s how:
- Using an extra-fine tip marker made for making fabrics, draw a simple shape on the canvas of your choice. Think of hearts for St. Valentine’s Day, leaves for autumn, or four-leaf clovers for St. Patrick’s Day. Let dry overnight.
- Select your threads. The thread for the Cashmeres is the “background.” The other threads and embellishments use only small amounts and could be taken from your stash. Everything should be coordinated.
- Stitch the Cashmere grid in your chosen thread.</li>
- Fill in the open 2×2 squares in a variety of threads, stitches, and embellishments. Possibilities include larger beads, sequins attached with knots or seed beads, Mosaic, Four-way Continental, Cross Stitch, Rice, Tied Mosaic, and Rent-Cross Check. Scatter the choices around so the same stitch and/or color are not next to each other. Try not to use the same thread/stitch combination in more than one square.
That’s it, you’re done!
