If you are cool you don’t hold your glasses on chains, or put them on your head, you use croakies. You may not know them by name, but if you watch Triple D, you’ve seen them; Guy’s sunglasses hang off of them.
A band about 1/2″ to 1″ wide is sewn into tubes on each end. The tubes go onto the end of your glasses.
Looks like a great idea for needlepoint, right? One you could easily do yourself.
Mary Agnes of Needle Nicely thought so too. She has instructions on how she’s making hers in a recent blog post.
Once you’ve stitched yours, you’ll want to finish it. Line the needlepoint to about 1.5″ from the ends with ribbon and secure it to the long sides. Tuck in the unstitched canvas edges at the ends. With pearl cotton sew together the last 1.5″ of each end to make a tube. Fit the tube ends onto your glasses. If it does not fit tightly, use more pearl cotton to wrap the end to the glasses to tighten it. Secure the pearl cotton.

how many rows should the croakie be?
That really depends on the mesh size of the canvas you are using. Most of the ones I’ve seen are about 1/2″ wide. You would need to double this so that it was stitched front & back plus add a row or so for the fold. That would be 19-20 rows.
I would cut a piece of canvas this wide, fold it and test it on the glasses. It should fit a little loosely because stitched needlepoint is thicker than blank canvas.
Keep stitching,
Janet
