Much as I love my Needle Cozy, I love my Merry L Needle Drop Magnet even more. It’s absolutely fascinating. I find myself demonstrating it to anyone who comes near my stitching.
It’s amazing, you can drop your needle any way, even tip down, and the powerful magnet attracts the needle and holds it in place, just as you placed it. With most magnets, the needle will align itself in specific directions based on the location of the magnet.
I even have some minders where the magnet is so small in relation to the decorative top, that much of the minder isn’t magnetic at all. With round magnets you can place the magnet in a few orientations. If the base magnet is a bar, needles will go to be parallel with the long side of the magnet.
Not so here.
I found that, unlike my other magnets, I could drop this anyplace. I had the folks in my ANG Chapter try it and they could get it to stay in place.
Cool as this is, the construction is even cooler. It looks as if it is solid, but actually the top is constructed with small holes between the beads. Those holes are the secret to holding the needle point down.
Drop the needle this way and it’s directed (by magnetism) into the hole where the magnet holds it.
You can even do this, as the picture shows, with threaded needles. They are ready to go as soon as you need them.
I love this magnet!
