When I was in junior high my mom decided she was going to learn how to paint portraits. I was her chosen subject. While she’s a fantastic artist, portraiture is not one of her better things.
So that I didn’t have to sit still forever she took dozens of pictures of me to use.
The portrait turned out badly, so I know first hand how hard this is. Combine this with needlepoint and the task seems almost impossible.
Orna Willis has a glorious on-line exhibit of the needlepoint portraits of Maria E Pineres, you can see one of them here.
Maria was born in Columbia, raised in Brooklyn and makes her home in LA.
