If conventional needle threaders with wires, no matter how stiff, or holes are not your favorites, consider using the hook needle threaders from Puffin. These threaders are available in a variety of styles and in two sizes: regular (reviewed in this article) and micro (reviewed here).
Puffin & Co has fantastic needle threaders. They are so well-thought and so easy to use, you’ll find yourself wondering, as I did, why there aren’t others like it. Like all Puffin & Co products, they tested it as stitchers to find all the little things that will make you love them too.
First off, they have tiny Rare Earth Magnets, like your needle minders. I bet you have thought for years (I have) that your threaders just got lost or got kept with your other tools. I do that and they just don’t get used.
With this pair of tiny magnets, you can put it on your canvas like a needleminder or put it on a tack. That way it’s right there when you need it.
It has a hook for threading the needle. Put the hook through the eye, place the thread on the hook, and pull it back out. Your needle is threaded!
I found the small hook incredibly easy to use. Unlike some other metal threaders, it went through my #22 needle easily. Unlike the metal and even the wire threaders I’ve used, it was easy to get the thread onto the hook.
This little hook is sturdy, a real boon if wire threaders frustrate you. I’ve had threaders that used soft bead stringing wire, so the loop flopped before you could use it. Others are so poorly attached to the threader, they come apart if you try to use them. Others break along the loop someplace if you pull too hard or if your thread is thick. Tested by stitchers this design has none of these problems.
I also found that threads that had caused me problems in the past were easy to thread with the Puffin Threader.
As a bonus, I found that I could use much shorter tails and could rethread short ends of thread quite easily.
These threaders come in a number of different styles that coordinate with other Puffin & Co. products.
Buy this threader — you’ll love it!
