As soon as I saw this Fortune Cookie Ornament on the Sun City Stitcher blog, I knew I had to share it with you.
It’s incredibly easy to make. Draw a circle on the canvas mesh of your choice. Pick a skein of Watercolors. Fill it with a stitch, reserving some thread for a hanger, cording, and assembly.
The guild program this was made for specified both Watercolours and Byzantine Stitch, but you could use any thread and full coverage stitch of your choice.
Finishing
To finish, cut the needlepoint about 5 threads beyond the stitched area. Clip the unstitched edges and fold under. If you are using cording, sew it to the outside edge of the circle.
Fold the circle in half and sew the edges together using your leftover or other coordinating thread. Lightly stuff the ornament. Add in your hanger.
Finish sewing up the edges.
Now bring the two ends of the half circle together and stitch them together. Using your leftover thread, make a few stitches to hold the fold in place, creating the fortune cookie shape.
