It’s a work horse of a thread, coming in many sizes, although I wish it came in more colors.
You can buy solid colors from the major thread makers all over the place. Many small thread companies hand-dye it in exciting colors.
It can’t be separated, so you will only use one strand. Because it’s round you can use it as padding and you don’t need to use a laying tool with it.
Plus its texture and sheen is just lovely.
THere must be some pearl cotton mojo in the air because recently there were two great blog posts about this wonderful thread.
First off, Gay Ann Rogers plans to celebrate pearl cotton on her site.
A far more in-depth look at this thread can be found on Mary Corbet’s blog. There you’ll find close-up pictures of all sizes of pearl cotton, information about their construction, and comparisons of it with floss and floche.
Great stuff!
