Recently I bought this candy cane on eBay. It came with a stitch guide but no threads. Because my every is very low this weekend. It’s an interesting guide with a different stitch for each stripe.
I decided to use stash threads, many sparkly ones, and picked three reds and three greens.
While I am no stranger to using many threads, the combination of many threads and so many stitches is very near the edge of my needlepoint comfort zone. I am not that fond of over-the-top pieces, which this might be.
However this edge isn’t one I approach very often, so I really don’t know where “too much” is. I have done this in the past with color (an all-orange background), and stitches (a piece featuring lots of Hilton stitches), and mesh (Congress Cloth). Starting these pieces taught me things about my tastes and skills as a stitcher.
While orange is not my favorite color, I did finish that project. Now I will use orange in my projects with no problem. The other two projects were never completed.I learned that, except for Jessicas, I really don’t like Hilton stitches. The project taught me not to pick pieces with lots of them, I will not enjoy them. The Congress Cloth project also got abandoned because I could not see it and didn’t like it much.
I do plan to finish this one because I won’t be able to tell if it’s too much until it’s done. I’ll post a picture and analysis then.
